About ADA

At Argoba Development Association (ADA), we are dedicated to creating positive change and improving the lives of the Argoba community. Established in 2005, ADA is a local non-governmental organization committed to socio-economic development in the Argoba special woredas of Amhara and Afar regions, as well as Oromia and Harari regions. Our mission is to uplift the Argoba people from poverty and backwardness through integrated development programs.

At ADA, we envision a transformed Argoba community where individuals have access to improved living conditions, education, healthcare, and sustainable livelihoods. We strive to empower the Argoba people to become self-reliant, resilient, and active participants in their own development.

Our Mission

We are committed to work for socio-economic development of Argoba by soliciting resource from the community, governmental and non-governmental organizations, supporters and other sources and enhancing active community participation to initiate and sufficiently work on demand- driven development programs in the areas of human capital development, sustainable livelihood security and integratedhealth and also in development of language & culture.

Our Objectives

• Improvement of the living conditions of the disadvantaged people.
• Advancement of social development among the poor.
• Promotion of care, welfare and employment opportunities for different needy sections of the society.
• Promotion of integrated community development programs.
• Mobilization of the people for self-help development schemes.
• To document the history, culture and heritage of peoples along with developing and promoting Eco TourismOpportunities;
• To raise awareness on environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, mobilize the community for practical interventions, and play supportiveroles;
• To enhance and support economic empowerment and female education and gender mainstreaming to improve socio-economic development role ofwomen;

Projects Supported by ADA

Intensive farming at households Level

  1. Projects that increase productivity of farmlands
  2. Off-farm income generating activities in order to easy pressure on land
  3. Popularizing highland fruit trees, such as apple, plum, peaches, mango, avocado, etc.
  4. Extensive vegetable growing at a household level
  5. Improving sheep, goats and cattle breed, Fattening activities
  6. Bee-keeping
  7. Poultry farming

Projects that need support at village level

  1. Water scheme, such as spring development
  2. Provide equipment for apiculture
  3. Rain water collection schemes
  4. Irrigation schemes
  5. Highland fruit trees nursery at the village level for distribution to farmers
  6. Scheme helping elderly and the poor in the villages
  7. Introducing new farm technologies

Projects that need support at Kebele level

  1. Improving quality of education and enabling children of the area to compete with other compatriots
  2. Awarding and motivating able students for higher performance
  3. Construction of internal roads
  4. Protecting and Maintaining historical places andartifacts
  5. Projects for unemployed youth
  6. Provision of education and distribution of fruit and tree seedlings to farmers for the promotion of growing indigenous trees and environmental protection.

Projects that need support at District/Woreda level

  1. ICT Dissemination, computer training for young people
  2. Construction, rehabilitation, renovation and upgrading of traditional preschools, kindergartens, and primary schools.
  3. Library development
  4. Construction of health center
  5. Construction of sanitation complexes (consisting of water supply points, wash and shower facilities) and pit latrines.
  6. Developing apiary center for provision of equipments
  7. Provision of health education on environmental sanitation, HIV/AIDS prevention, etc.
  8. Provision of support for poor & elderly people and needy students in the form of food distribution and money, and local scholarship fund, respectively.
  9. Provision of emergency relief in the event of disaster.
  10. Young people organized in crafts cooperatives.
  11. Undertaking integrated community development programs in selected localities.
